Description

M17 is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius.
About 6,000 light-years from Earth, it's one of the brightest and easiest to locate summer emitting regions. In fact, under dark skies, it's clearly visible to the naked eye and interesting observations can be made through binoculars or small telescopes; with large apertures the observation of this nebula from the eyepiece is stunning.
M17 is an H II region in which star formation is active, made bright by the light radiation of the spectral class B stars formed in it.
M17 and M16 are angularly (distance of 2.5° in the sky) and physically close, in fact they are located a few light years away from each other and are connected by a nebulous complex of which they are part.
This image is a widefield around M17, in which we can see a distribution of =HwtZe=jCAhz ChMk0b=ryNqvbionized gas dusts present in the region.
